Word Style Map (MWS File)
Style Map files are contained in the DBT Templates folder. Thanks to the Style Map file, when DBT imports a file from Microsoft Word, it recognizes most of the standard styles applied to the text in Word, and it applies corresponding DBT braille styles. For example the "Heading 1" Style in Word, becomes DBT's "h1." heading style.
The Style Map can give you tremendous control over how imported Word documents are formatted and can save you, literally, hours of work.
If a document contains user-defined Word styles, DBT will not know about them automatically. However, you can use a utility called SWIFT, an add-in for Word, to map even user-defined styles to DBT styles. SWIFT is available for Word on the Windows platform only. Details for using SWIFT are also available in DBT's Help system. (See: "SWIFT".)
If you are following BANA braille formatting rules, you may choose to use the "BANA Braille" Template in Word, which may be installed with DBT on your system. See the Help topic called "The BANA Braille Template for Word" for a full explanation.
Experienced users may want to create and maintain their own Word Style Map (.mws) files. For details, please see the topic, "Modifying ".mws" Files".
