Deactivation Options

Deactivating your Duxbury Program takes it out of production mode, i.e., makes it stop running on this computer.

There are two principal reasons you may want to deactivate your Duxbury program: first, because you want to move the program to a different computer, or second, because you are about to give your computer an upgrade. In the latter case, you deactivate now in order to reactivate smoothly later.

Neglecting to deactivate before an upgrade is easy to overlook, so it is worthwhile to know why you do it. The issue is that frequently a hardware or software upgrade will make your machine look like a different computer to the activation process and cause it to stop working. In that event you need to uninstall your Duxbury program and reinstall it to activate again. Deactivating first is much easier.

Examples of activation-compromising upgrades are: adding a new disk drive, changing the BIOS, moving the activation files folder, moving the Duxbury program to a different volume, and sometimes updating the operating system.

Just like activation, for deactivation you first choose the path you want to use to deactivate: via the internet, email, telephone, mail, or fax. As always, the preferred way to communicate, the quickest and easiest, is through the Internet.

Once you are deactivated, you can always reactivate later, or you can then activate your program on a different computer.
