What does it do?
It prevents text being split across a page boundary, without necessarily effecting line breaks.
Where would it be used?
One example is, if it will not fit the existing page, to move the last line of a letter and signature block, to a new page. Another might be to avoid a word being left on its own on the last page of a chapter.

Let us explain!
Note the placement of the [kbs1] Code. This is effectively saying that if the text which follows cannot fit on the rest of the page, put it on the next page, but include the whole of the last line.
